Presidential Library Brings White House-Style Egg Roll to Independence | March 21, 2018

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes, Mayor Eileen Weir and County Executive Frank White, Jr. will read children’s books during first annual Harry’s Hop n’ Hunt

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. – The White House egg roll is coming to Independence, with a free day of family of fun at the Harry S. Truman Library and Museum on March 31. The Truman Library, the Truman Library Institute and the Independence Square Association are inviting the community to an egg roll competition, two Easter egg hunts and story time throughout the morning featuring Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Mayor Eileen Weir and County Executive Frank White, Jr. The Easter Bunny himself will also be making an appearance!

Since 1878 American presidents and their families have commemorated Easter by hosting an egg roll on the South Lawn. This year kids throughout the Kansas City area can try their hand at this historic tradition where they race to push eggs along the lawn using wooden spoons at Harry’s Hop ‘n Hunt.

EVENT SCHEDULE – SATURDAY, MARCH 31:

10:00 a.m. – Story Time on the Steps with Mayor Eileen Weir

10:10 a.m. – Egg Roll Race # 1

10:35 a.m. – Story Time on the Steps with Chiefs Quarterback Patrick Mahomes

10:45 a.m. – Egg Hunt (Bring your own basket)

11:00 a.m. – Story Time on the Steps with Royals baseball legend and County Executive Frank White

11:10 a.m. – Egg Roll Race # 2

11:35 a.m. – Story Time on the Steps

11:45 a.m. – Egg Hunt (Bring your own basket)

12:00 p.m. – Parade of cars to the Independence Square, led by the Easter Bunny in a 1941 Cadillac Fleetwood 60 Special, driven by the car’s owner Norman Kressman

All are invited to compete in the egg roll, with racers divided by age groups, and children 12 and under are welcome in the egg hunt. The event is free to the public, but RSVPs are requested for the egg roll. All events take place rain or shine at the Truman Library (500 W. U.S. Hwy 24, Independence, MO 64050).
